The Foreign Policy Agenda of the  Next President

with Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schlie
(CASSIS | Universität Bonn)

Since the inauguration of Donald Trump, significant changes have occurred in the international system, especially in regard to the foreign policy agenda of the United States. A radical paradigm shift – from multilateralism to „America First" – has unveiled the instability of global cooperation and coordination. The lecture given by Professor Schlie will illustrate the historical significance of these changes and outline whether the foreign policy agenda of the next president will further erupt, repair, or rebuild the order of the international system.

Ulrich Schlie is the newly appointed Henry Kissinger Professor at the University of Bonn’s Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS). He spent 27 years in the German Foreign Service and served as Director General for International Security Policy and Head of the Policy Planning Staff in the Federal Ministry of Defence. His latest book publications include Modernes Regierungshandeln in Zeiten der Globalisierung (ed., Nomos, 2019) and a biography of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (Herder, 2018).

The lecture will be streamed via Zoom.
