Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies

In recen tyears, American slavery has been discussed as “slavery = capitalism” – both in the U.S. and with regard to Latin American “second slavery” societies (e.g., Cuba, Brazil). In his lecture, Professor Zeuske will focus on the capital of human bodies as controlled mainly by Iberian slave traders, highlighting individual life narratives and the history of some notorious slave ships, such as the Amistad and the Clotilda.

Michael Zeuskeis a professor emeritus of Iberian and Latin American history at the University of Cologne as well as a principal investigator at the University of Bonn’s Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies. His latest book publication is Sklaverei : Eine Mensch heitsgeschichte (2018).
