Author Robin Meloy Goldsby joins American jazz musicians John Goldsby and Billy Test for a joyful, music-filled evening celebrating the holiday season.

Music connects us all—and this year that connection means everything. Robin Goldsby’s humorous, poignant holiday stories—accompanied by musical romps through a variety of American standards, original tunes, and jazz renditions of seasonal melodies—promise a sparkling, original perspective on Christmas traditions. John Goldsby (double bass) and Billy Test (piano), members of the swinging, GRAMMY-winning WDR Big Band, promise a jazz-inspired, toe-tapping counterpoint to Robin’s laugh-out-loud funny, eloquent memories of American holidays, past and present.

Goldsby, Goldsby, and Test will deliver a one-hour program that launches you into the holiday season with a song in your heart.

Robin Meloy Goldsby's career has taken her from Pittsburgh to posh New York City venues and exclusive resorts, and on to the European castles and concert stages where she now performs. Robin, a Steinway Artist, has seven recordings to her name and has appeared, as an author and pianist, on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. She is the author of Piano Girl; Rhythm; Waltz of the Asparagus People; and Manhattan Road Trip.

Since 1994, John Goldsby has held the position of solo bassist with the Grammy Award-winning Westdeutscher Rundfunk Big Band (Cologne Radio Big Band). From 1980 to 1994, Goldsby was a fixture on the New York jazz scene. Goldsby’s recent recordings as bandleader include Segment (Billy Test & Hans Dekker), The Innkeeper’s Gun, Space for the Bass, Live at the Nachbar and The Visit. With the WDR Big Band, Goldsby performs and records with stars like Joe Lovano, Patti Austin, Maceo Parker, Jacob Collier, Knower, Antonio Sanchez, Chucho Valdes and others. Goldsby has authored The Jazz Bass Book, Jazz Bowing Techniques for the Improvising Bassist, and Bass Notes.

Pennsylvania native Billy Test is an acclaimed New York City pianist, composer, arranger, and educator, currently holding the solo piano position in NRW’s GRAMMY-award winning WDR Big Band. His multi-faceted music has been inspired by many styles. Like many of his piano heroes—Bill Evans, Fred Hersch and Richie Beirach—Test’s music is rooted in the jazz tradition yet demonstrates a strong classical influence.
