The White House seems to be in a state of great uncertainty. Recently surfaced reports that President Trump had asked the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate into matters surrounding presidential candidate Joe Biden’s family. This even caused Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to give up her reluctance to launch an impeachment inquiry. On the other hand, support for the president among his base remains stable. President Trump himself has demonstrated confidence that impeachment efforts will help him with his re-election. All of this may lead to an unprecedented situation in 2020: Trump might become the first president to be impeached by the House and subsequently run for re-election – with a real chance of winning again.

What are the odds of a successful impeachment procedure? How will it affect the next presidential election? Will the Trump Administration continue in office after 2020 despite the current turmoil? On November 7, in cooperation with Amerika Haus e.V. NRW and the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung, the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) will host a discussion with two former members of the U.S. Congress, Barbara Comstock (Republican Party) and Raymond Eugene Green (Democratic Party). After sharing their respective party’s views on these issues and other urgent questions, both former members of Congress will debate where Europe’s key transatlantic partner may be headed, in a discussion moderated by Dr. Hendrik Ohnesorge from the University of Bonn.

Free Entrance! The event will be held in English.
