Otto Wolff-Lecture

The Otto Wolff-Lecture was initiated by the chairwoman of Amerika Haus NRW e.V. Jeane Freifrau von Oppenheim and the Otto Wolff Foundation. The lecture series is dedicated to Alfred von Oppenhem and Otto Wolff von Amerongen, two friends who had dedicated their lives to the fostering of transatlantic relations. They had both presided the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and played a significant role for the City of Cologne and the research on international politics. With the Otto Wolff-Lecture series, Otto Wolff Fourndation and Amerika Haus e.V. NRW invite renowned experts from the USA to come to Cologne and to discuss vital political issues of our times.


John Korblum »Changing of the Times: A Global Atlantic«

John Kornblum is one of the leading American experts and committed Transatlanticist. The former US Ambassador to Germany from 1997 to 2001 looked back on his career as a top diplomat that lasted more than thirty years.
During the Otto Wolff-Lecture, the experienced and long standing Diplomat, German studies specialist, and political scientist spoke about a change in times in the transatlantic relationship.


George McGovern »The Crisis of American Democracy«

George McGovern is considered to be one of the most distinguished US-American politicians of the 20th century. He was the Democrats’ presidential candidate in 1972, member of the House of Representatives, and the Senator of South Dekota for many years. Senator McGovern was special advisor to President John F. Kennedy and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 2000, which is the highest civil award of the United States. In the course of the Otto Wolff-Lecture, Senator McGovern – experienced politician, author, and teacher – gave a lecture on the current polarization of US-American politics.
