ACHT BRÜCKEN | Music for Cologne
The trio consisting of guitarist Mary Halvorson, drummer Weasel Walter and the trumpeter Peter Evans, is closely connected to the spirit of „The Stone“. The “field of research“ of the three instrumentalists is to break up the conventional parameter of a (freely) improvised music and look for new, often unusual means of expression. For example, to condense sounds ad hoc so the different tone pitches retread behind the sonority experience, to concentrate rhythms until they are only perceptible as a pulsation. Further, to clinch linear processes in order to make vertical structures become audible. Doing so, the musicians do not perceive themselves in a history-free environment: References to the Jazz tradition are as intended as those to the history of the newly composed music.
