“The USA after the Presidential Elections: Consequences for the World, Implications for Europe”
America has voted. How will the new U.S. President deal with the challenges at hand? And what are the opportunities for transatlantic relations? Only rarely has an American presidential election received so much attention, even outside the United States, as this year’s race for the succession to George W. Bush. Soaring oil prices, the crisis on the financial markets, the world-wide fight against terror, and climate politics – these are only a few of the challenges facing the new President. The world holds its breath in anticipation of the strategies that will be developed by the White House. One thing is already clear, however: The new U.S. government – regardless of who the president will be – will demand from the Europeans, including Germany, increased efforts in contributing to the international crisis management, also within the framework of NATO.
