Dortmund: »The Atlantic Imperative in an Era of a Global Power Shift«

The Amerika Haus e.V. NRW in cooperation with Ernst & Young and support from the Economic Development Agency Dortmund cordially invited to a lecture and discussion with Geoff Kemp and Corey Johnson.

The rise of new economic powers, the world's growing population and the uncertainty of supply routes have led to increased demand and thus to a global competition for scarce resources.

In Europe, interruptions of Russian gas supplies, the construction of the Baltic pipeline and the Nabucco project have raised awareness for the importance of future energy security.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the U.S. are trying to reduce their oil import dependency and compete with Russia, Canada, the EU and China over the world’s presumably largest oil and gas reserves in the Arctic.

Additionally China has not only risen as a global economic power but has also gained significant geo-strategic influence in Africa, Asia and Latin America by pursuing an abrasive strategy to secure raw materials. In terms of energy, China has also become the major trading partner for the Iranian regime which has been isolated by the United States.

How significant have resource-conflicts become in the geopolitical arena? How could a transatlantic strategy to secure raw materials look like? What are the consequences of an increasingly global resource competition between U.S. and China?
