Dr. Peter M. Boehm, Ambassador of Canada in Germany

Dr. Peter M. Boehm, Canadian Ambassador to Germany, was our guest in Düsseldorf and spoke about the Canadian view on current transatlantic challenges in economic policy.

Canada and Germany have overcome the global financial and economic crisis rather well. Given this global financial crisis, however, further effects on both countries remain uncertain. Canada heavily relies on the American market and the demand in other EU member states is the basis for Germany’s strength in exports. As both countries are closely intertwined with the global economy, a deterioration of the crisis would have serious consequences for Canada as well as Germany. Ambassador Boehm took a look at the current developments and pointed out which steps are necessary to meet these challenges effectively.

Peter M. Boehm holds a PhD in history and has been Ambassador of Canada to Germany since 2008. Joining the diplomatic service in 1981, Boehm led the section for the Americas, North America, and Consular Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. He served as Minister at the Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C. (2001-2004) and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative at the Organisation of American States (1997-2001) as well as being the representative (“Sherpa”) of the Prime Minister for the summits of the Americas.
