Ambassador Robert M. Kimmitt has particularly close ties with Germany: Before his term as United States Ambassador to Germany from 1991 to 1993, her served as the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and took part in the “Two Plus Four” Talks which shaped the international status of a reunited Germany.
Among other distinctions, he was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz for his service as US Ambassador to Germany and his contributions to Germany’s reunification process. In his function as the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Ambassador Kimmitt worked closely with President George W. Bush.
Ambassador Kimmitt is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves as Senior International Council for the law firm WilmerHale in Washington, D.C.
At the Haus der Geschichte, Bonn, Ambassador Kimmitt will speak about economic, financial, and security-related aspects of German-American relations – a close and long-standing relationship which is facing a new era marked by the wake of the financial crisis and the growing importance of emerging nations.
After the lecture and a panel talk with Dr. Thomas Gutschker, Foreign Policy desk of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, you will have the opportunity to join an open discussion with our guest.
