Neuss: »Counterinsurgency and Counterterrorism«
The Amerika Haus e.V. NRW cordially invited in cooperation with the city of Neuss and the German American Association Neuss e.V. to a lunch lecture with Dr. Seth Jones, Senior Political Scientist, RAND Corporation Washington, D.C.
In early December 2011 the international community came together at the International Afghanistan Conference Bonn II to set the course for the future of Afghanistan.
The aim was to take stock of the 10-year-international engagement in Afghanistan and to prepare a sustained commitment at the Hindu Kush. This is also in the best interest of the American President: President Obama has announced to withdraw tens of thousands of troops from Afghanistan by 2012. He is aware of the importance of this theme for his campaign next year and that three quarters of all Americans support the idea to withdraw some or all soldiers from Afghanistan.
Dr. Seth Jones, an expert on terrorism and Afghanistan at the RAND Corporation in Washington, DC, gave an estimate on the current challenges of the Afghanistan mission and outlined ideas of the expectations if the international forces withdraw.
Dr. Seth Jones most recently served among others as a representative for the U.S. Special Operations Command, to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations / Low Intensity Conflict and Interdependant Capabilities. Dr. Jones specializes in terrorism and counter-insurgency with a special focus on Afghanistan, Pakistan and is author of numerous books.
