Reading & Discussion

»In the Center of Power: Diplomatic Adventures in England and America«

featuring Jutta Falke-Ischinger, Author and Journalist

Moderation: Dr. Richard Kiessler, Editor-in-Chief and Special Foreign Policy Correspondent, WAZ Media Group

It is September 10, 2001 and Jutta Falke is accompanying German Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger to Washington. The next day, the world changes forever. She experienced first-hand what most Germans only saw on television.

She also experienced the political scene up close. Her experiences are chronicled in her book, "Which way to the Queen", an authentic, lively and not exactly everyday look at the center of power and the society of the powerful. "One evening, we met Hillary Clinton at the kitchen table of one of her former colleagues. She spoke with a solid, down-to-earth voice. It does one good just to listen," Falke-Ischinger writes of her meeting with now Secretary of State Clinton. She was also impressed by talks with former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and the then Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan - they talked shop about antique musical instruments, not economics.

In the Breidenbacher Hof, the former political editor from "der Welt" and the "Rheinischen Merkurs" will read from her book and talk about, in discussion with Dr. Richard Kiessler, other adventures in the diplomatic circle in Washington D.C. and in London.
