Breakfast-Talk
In discussion with Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, former US Secretary of State
At the invitation of Amerika Haus, the former
US Secretary of State Dr. Henry A. Kissinger spoke with trustees and
institutional supporters. At the breakfast talk in Cologne, high-ranking
representatives of the economy and political personalities were represented:
Cologne’s Chief Mayor Fritz Schramma and Andreas Krautscheid, NRW-minister for
government affairs, Europe and media, were both in attendance.
Dr. Claus Kleber, head of the ZDF-Heute-Journal, led the
discussion, in which the current economic crisis played as much of a central
role as the new political mood in American government under the leadership of
Barack Obama. In both fields, Kissinger expressed the opinion that
international cooperation and multilateral methods of resolution would be the
key to lasting success.

Pertaining to European-American relations,
Kissinger sees the necessity of revitalizing the common values that bind both
sides of the Atlantic together. A joint vision is needed, in order to newly
strengthen what we hold in common and act together. The solution to the
financial crisis could also emerge from such a communal effort. Europe should
not be seen as a competitor, said Kissinger, but rather as an important
partner.
