Jagdish Bhagwati is one of the most renown Economists in the world. His wife, Padma Desai, is also an internationally recognized academic specializing in the transformation of the economic system. They both contribute regularly to academic journals and other leading publications including New York Times, die Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal.

„I would like to make the human face of globalization gentler“, explains Bhagwat about his purpose. The native Indian suceeds in pointing out the social and cultural aspects of globalization more than most advocates of free trade thereby balancing the capitalist paradigm with social agendas.

Padma Desai is an expert on Russia and the transition from communism to capitalism. She regularly meets with Russia's influential players and delivers in her publications a balanced, factual and enlightening analysis of the success and failures of the post-Soviet development. She sees a carefully optimistic balance for Russia's future. At present, she is working on a book about the financial crisis and the roll of Germany.

Professor Jagdish Bhagwati is the Kurt Viermetz Distinguished Visitor and Professor Padma Desai Citigroup Distinguished Visitor of the American Academy in Berlin.
