Bonn: »U.S. economic and financial policies in the election year«
Four years after Barack Obama was elected President, the U.S. economy is just slowly recovering. Although the unemployment rate has lowered to 8.5%, the weak labor market remains an obstacle to stronger growth. Massive national debt and the huge trade deficit reduce trust in the U.S.’ economic power and stimulate the debates in the U.S. presidential election campaign.Dr. Mildner dedicated her lecture to answearing such questions as: What does a look on economic and financial policy in the election year 2012 tell us? By which measures has President Obama tried to overcome the economic crisis since he took office? Which role do economic policy issues play in the campaign so far and what are the ideas presented by the Republican presidential candidates?
Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner is a member of the Executive Board and Research Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), non-residating fellow at the AICGS in Washington and visiting lecturer at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. She studied North American Studies and Economics at the University of Berlin and International Political Economy at the London School of Economics. In the autumn of 2011 she was Visiting Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy GMF.
