"A New Foreign Policy? Implications of the U.S. Congressional and Presidential Elections"
The American voters have made their choice: On 4 November it will be determined who will move into the White House in 2009 as the 44th President of the United States of America. At the same time a new Congress has been elected. What may the United States and Europe expect from the new constellations in Washington? John McCain has taken a position as a fighter. Barack Obama is more the diplomat. Who has convinced the voters more?
How
will the new President position himself regarding foreign policy and
react to international challenges? Richard W. Weitz of the Hudson
Institute, the American Think Tank for political and military analyses
is a proven expert in issues concerning international politics and
security, and will provide us with some initial assessments and views
to the future. As someone who has been familiar with Europe for years,
he casts a particular eye to the effects of the new U.S. government on
Germany, its neighbors, and the European alliances.
Moderation: Dr. Thomas Gutschker, Rheinischer Merkur
