»Transatlantic Trends: How the World Views the U.S.«

Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, Senior Director at The German Marshall Fund of the United States, earlier Washington-correspondent of the German weekly Die Zeit presented the GMF's most recent "Transatlantic Trends", an annually published survey measuring the broad public opnion in Europe and the U.S. on political and economic issues.

Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, GMF, presenting the transatlantic trends at Amerika Haus NRWThe survey analyzes interviews conducted in the United States and 12 European countries: in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slowenia, Spain, Turkey and Great Britain. On the basis of these interviews and the findings of the Transatlantic Trends of 2003 to 2008, the survey evaluates the general state of transatlantic relations. At the same time, it assesses American and European attitudes on current topics such as

•  the Obama-Effect

  • •  the handling of the financial and economic crisis
  • •  international security and relations to Russia, Iran and Afghanistan
  • •  Turkey and the EU
  • •  climate change
  • •  U.S. and EU in Global Leadership

 

The presentation was followed by a discussion with the audience moderated by Angela Freimuth, Member of NRW-Parliament and chair of the German-American Parlamentarian Group.
