»State of the Art(ist)«

In the unique surrounding of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum's art collection the Amy Antin Trio presented songs about and inspired by modern and contemporary art. Singer, songwriter and Painter, Amy Antin was born in New York City and lives in Cologne. Along with Philipp Imdahl (Drums) and Bernd Keul (Bass), she presented songs about artists and their work under the title "State of the Art(-ist)". She was first inspired for this kind of approach by Mark Rothko to whom she she dedicated a series of songs called The Rothko Cycle.

It holds a collection of modern and contemporary art which is singular within the German acadamic landscape. American artists are prominently represented sculptures, graphics and paintings, for example by Richard Serra, Sam Francis und Frank Stella.

The audience also witnessed a premiere: Amy Antin performed two songs which she had composed for the RUB's art collection. "Diego", dedicated to Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti's sculpture of the same name and "Out of Imdahl", dedicated to the founder of the art collection, Max Imdahl. The Imdahl family played a special role on this evening. Philipp Imdahl, the trio's drummer is a son of the great art critic and to end the concert, Amy Antin performed a song which she had written for his mother.

The audience appreciated the mixture of music and art and was very moved by the profoundness of the songs.
