Neuss: Concert "A Jazzy Nikolaus Day"

Der Amerika Haus e.V. NRW lud Sie herzlich ein zum Konzert "A Jazzy Nikolaus Day" mit John Goldsby (Bass), Hans Dekker (Drums) und Andy Hunter (Trombone).

 

Die Kölner Amerikaner Andy Hunter und John Goldsby werden von Hans Dekker, ihrem Kollegen aus der WDR Big Band, für einen Abend des Kammerjazz unterstützt. Das Trio-Format von Kontrabass, Posaune und Schlagzeug sorgt für eine musikalische Magie. Diese drei Meistermusiker feiern die Traditionen des amerikanischen musikalischen Weihnachten durch die Jazzperspektive. An dem Abend werde auch kurze Texte vorgetragen mit humorvollen und rührenden Inhalten über die Ferienzeit und Nikolaus Traditionen.

John Goldsby has held the position of solo bassist with the Grammy Award-winning Westdeutscher Rundfunk Big Band (the Cologne Radio Big Band) since 1994. From 1980 to 1994, Goldsby lived in New York City and was a fixture on the New York jazz scene. Mr. Goldsby is the author of The Jazz Bass Book, Jazz Bowing Techniques for the Improvising Bassist, and Bass Notes. He is a guest lecturer at the Conservatorium Maastricht (NL). He writes regularly for Bass Player Magazine USA and The Strad GB. With the WDR Big Band, Goldsby is featured on current releases such as: Bombella (Abdullah Ibrahim), Symphonica (Joe Lovano), the Grammy-Award-Winning Avant Gershwin and For Ella (Patti Austin), Roots and Grooves (Maceo Parker), and Big Band Time (Paquito D'Rivera). 

Hans Dekker has fueled and fired the WDR Big Band from the drum chair since 2005. Born in Enschede, Netherlands, Dekker was a founder of the famous Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra. Beside his work with the Grammy-Award winning WDR Big Band Köln, he has played regularly with stars like Till Brönner, Scott Hamilton, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Nils Landgren, Hugh Masakela, Bob Brookmeyer, Dee Dee Bridgewater and world-class ensembles like The Metropole Orchestra, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and Dutch Jazz Orchestra. 

Andy Hunter is an exciting, bold musician deeply entrenched in the European, Chinese, and New York music scenes. An experienced leader and highly in-demand side man, he performs around the world with high profile artists such as the 2010 Grammy Award-winning Mingus Big Band/Dynasty, Richard Bona, Nnenna Freelon, T.S. Monk’s tentet, Dave Holland’s Big Band (a 2005 Grammy winner), theToshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, and the 2010 Grammy Awardwinning Spanish Harlem Orchestra.
